What is a Safari

A Safari is a word derived from a Swahili language which means journey. This word is taken or adopted from an Arabic word Safara which means to travel.

Arab settlers moved to East Africa in the 7th century and  bought with them their language culture and religion. With the coming of Arabs the Arabic language was mixed with the Bantu language and that is how the Swahili language was born. This Language grew and spread in most parts of eastern Africa because of trade.

“Safari” is one of the words that was born, grew and evolved with time, to mean journey or expedition with a purpose of observing wild animals in the wilderness, in either eastern or southern parts of Africa.

To make things better and more interesting most of the time these safaris are done in a 4 Wheel drive with an open roof or with no top at all “a game drive”. This experience can be one of the most exhilarating adventures in one’s life. One wakes up early in the morning (it can be as early as 4 or 5 in the morning) and goes out to look for wild animals like Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Rhino, Elephants and many more. The reason for waking up early is, it is easy to see animals early and late in the evening for at this time the sun is not so hot and thus animals are not hiding where it is cool.

It is my wish that everyone should get the chance to experience a safari in east Africa at least once in their lifetime. And what is best is, I have never in my life met anyone who has experienced a game drive and hated it. You should therefore join us and be a part of those in the world that have experienced this beautiful adventure.
